A local interior design company is helping property developers and holiday home owners to find new opportunities despite the difficult economic climate in the UK. VK Colourworks Ltd is a dynamic and progressive company based in Ilfracombe. Formed nine years ago by Vicky Wilkins and Karley Fricker, it has recently been focusing on helping developers who have built properties and have been unable to sell them due to the recession. Vicky and Karley have used their expertise to transform these buildings into desirable properties that are fully furnished and ready for holiday rental or resale.
What is particularly impressive about VK Colourworks is that the two women have skills that complement each other extremely well. Vicky is qualified in interior design, whereas Karley has qualifications in architecture and spatial design.

Our capabilities range from moving walls or positioning soil and drainage pipes correctly right through to the final small but very important design details - such as soft furnishings and lighting.”

14 APARTMENTS AT THE LIGHTHOUSE IN NEWQUAY
A recent successful project included 14 apartments at The Lighthouse in Newquay where the developer was having trouble selling them due to the recession. VK Colourworks converted these into Five Star holiday homes. The company provided everything that was needed to enable the apartments to win the Five Star rating – including interior design, decoration; furnishing the apartments; and fitting out the kitchens with a range of electrical equipment, crockery and cutlery.
"We made sure that each apartment had its own individual
‘chic boutique’ flavour, as requested by the client
– and our team completed all of the work in just two
weeks,” says Vicky. “This impressed the developer
so much so that he asked us to re-design 56 beautiful villas in
Trewhiddle Village, St Austell, which he also owned
Over the years, our work has really snowballed. We work
in collaboration with a lot of local tradespeople, which enables us
to offer a comprehensive service. We are one of the few
companies that can offer such a complete solution across multiple
properties. Holiday homes are a growing industry in the UK,
so our service is helping the developers, which in turn is
providing more options for the increasing number of people who are
taking their vacations in the UK.”
